Feeling lonely?

The Computer Science Club is a club made just for you: we're geeky, friendly and fun. Currently, our big project is a contest that we hope to become a big annual event here at UCA. We're calling it The Ultimate Challenge because, well, it's big and we couldn't think of a better name. More information is below. Enjoy :)

The Ultimate Challenge

We like to think of this as the mother-of-all CS games, because it has everything: trivia, programming, web hacking, computer forensics, data recovery, etc, etc, etc. We've split the contest into three major games, starting at 3PM sharp on April 7 in the CS department. We'll have food for all the participants and prizes for the top rankers in each challenge. Best of all, each participant can claim bonus points for a CS class of his or her choosing. You can apply your bonus points towards ANY Computer Science class. All students currently taking Computer Science classes and all Computer Science majors are invited to attend.

Here's the schedule of events:

Registration 3:00-3:30
Tech Jeopardy 3:15-3:45
Big Game 4:00-5:45
Programming Contest 3:30-5:30
Meet and Eat 6:00-?

By the way, if you're planning to attend you should sign up here, and be sure to mention which contest you think you'll attend. We need to know how many mouths to feed :)

Tech Jeopardy: A free-for-all, all level jeopardy featuring computer concepts. Here's a screenshot of one of our previous Tech Jeopardy games.

Programming: A small-goal oriented programming contest with CS1 and CS2 challenges. Check out the rules here. If you enjoy this contest, you can join the CS Club as it attends various programming competitions across the state.

The Big Game: Score points for your team by completing challenges in various categories. This is where your diverse skills really shine, because there will be lots of very different categories. Each challenge (there are multiple challenges per category) is worth a predetermined number of points. When your team completes a challenge, run your answer to the judging table so your points can be recorded. A projector will show each team's current points throughout the challenge to keep the competition fierce.

Here are a few examples of the kinds of questions you can expect from this game, and here's what the scoreboard will look like.

As you can see from the example above, this game can be very challenging. Although you can try it by yourself, we recommend that you team up with one or two people. Teams can have a maximum of three people.

Meet and Eat Eat some pizza with the Computer Science faculty. Simple, right?
